The European Union is urging Australia to implement a labeling system for European food and wine products such as feta and prosecco.

The European Union is pressing Australia to adopt its proposed “geographical indications” system to protect the names of European goods. It has pinpointed 170 food names and 236 spirit names that Australia should forfeit, including Feta and prosecco.

Additionally, it aims to reserve the names prosecco and parmesan solely for producers based in Europe.
