Phenomenon of Slow TV

If you happened to flick over to SBS over the weekend, you may have seen footage of a train slowly travelling through New Zealand.

SBS recently hosted a summer of slow tv: footage of trains making their slow journeys across countrysides which has become a hit for the channel, attracting over a million viewers.

But just what is it that viewers are getting from watching static footage of slow trains?
