The sport of tackling crime

When sport is associated with crime or illicit activities for illicit gain, these criminal activities come in many forms and shapes.   One that comes to mind immediately is the one of match-fixing.

What is worth asking is why some well-known, successful sportspeople resort to crime.  It seems that the answer to this question is complex and is contingent on individual circumstances.  Tackling crime in sport is a sport in itself!
