US soul singer, Sharon Jones has died from cancer at the age of 60. The singer was born on May 4, 1956, in Augusta, Georgia. She grew up in Brooklyn and regularly sang gospel at her church. Discovered by Gabriel Roth and Philip Lehman, she quickly shot to fame as lead singer of their newly formed Dap-Kings and launched the Bushwick, Brooklyn-based label, Daptone Records.
