Trillions of microbes live in our gut – and they’re health must-haves

A group of various high fibre foods that are good for digestive health, including grains, fruits, seeds and vegetables.

Your digestive system is home to thousands of species of microbes. Together they form what’s known as the gut microbiome.

These microscopic residents aren’t just passive hitchhikers – they play vital roles in keeping you healthy.

Microbiologist Dr Hasinika Gamage joins us this morning with some surprising things to share about your gut microbiome.

She’s Postdoctoral Researcher at the ARC Training Centre, Facilitated Advancement of Australia’s Bioactives, in the School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University, and joined us on the Thursday Daily this morning.
