UK to End EU Freedom of Movement

Following Boris Johnson’s entry into office last month, the British Prime Minister has announced this week that the United Kingdom will end freedom of movement rules as soon as it leaves the European Union on October 31st. The freedom of movement regulations currently in place allow citizens of EU countries to live and work without restrictions in any of the other member states. According to Mr Johnson, the UK will introduce ‘a new, fairer immigration system that priorities skills’ over country of origin. To discuss the implications of this major policy change, we were joined by Professor Simon Tormey, Professor of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Sydney.
