Wayne’s 4X2 — 20 November 2025: Dept. Q, Steve Gunn and More!

Need some entertainment but don’t know where to start? Paralysed by the options on your streaming services? Luckily for you, Wayne Massingham is here to save you with his weekly recommendations in film, music, and television.

Film: If I Had Legs I’d Kick You

Written and directed by Mary Bronstein, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You (2025) is a hard-but-worthwhile watch about the stresses of motherhood. Rose Byrne stars as Linda who grapples with the weight of mothering a young daughter with an eating disorder, an absent husband who only calls to critique her, and a temporary living situation in a motel as their apartment’s ceiling collapsed. This film also stars Conan O’Brien and A$AP Rocky, and is co-produced by Josh Safdie.

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You is in select cinemas now. Watch the trailer here.

Television: Dept. Q

Dept. Q (2025) is a 7-episode British police crime thriller that is more than just a whodunnit. Carl Morck, played by Matthew Goode, is our prickly-but-charismatic antihero who is moved to the unsolved crimes department, Dept. Q, after being shot. This show delves into our complicated protagonist in a way that elevates this genre in an uncharacteristic way. Season 2 is on its way!

Dept. Q is available on Netflix.

Television: Dying for Sex

This TV show is based on the real events of Molly Kochan who was a podcaster in the mid-2010s and was diagnosed with cancer. Unhappy in her marriage, she decided to live her last years liberated through sexual experiences which she documented in her podcast. Dying for Sex (2025) is a beautiful show that balances the tragedy with comedy.

Dying for Sex is available on Disney+.

Album: Daylight Daylight – Steve Gunn

Daylight Daylight is Steve Gunn’s second release of this year. Following his all-instrumental Music for Writers released only three months ago, Gunn returns to form with lyrics that complement his melodies. This not very well-known musician deserves some love with this seven-track album, where each song is five to six minutes long. Gunn delivers a gentle and mesmerising album that highlights his excellence with the guitar. Strings and woodwinds accompany this guitar-work, creating songs that just allow you to sink in.

Daylight Daylight is available on Bandcamp.
