What does AUKUS represent for Australians?

All week we’ve been hearing about the AUKUS nuclear submarine deal between Australia, the UK and the US.

Details announced on Tuesday unveiled Australia will get several Virginia class submarines from the US, while eight brand new submarines are built here on home soil.

But what does this deal mean for the Australian population? And for our relationships in the region?
