What is the Victimology of True Crime?

It is no secret that entertainment media spaces love to tell stories about true crime and cold cases. Most of these stories are told through film or streaming services giving us a deep insight into a perpetrators psychology as well as the intimate details of their life. However, in humanising these offenders, many of the abhorrent acts committed at their hands become dulled, undermining the stories of victims and their families.
