Where is Melbourne’s Political Graffiti?

Melbourne is the city of graffiti – over the past four decades, it has built a reputation has Australia’s response to street art in New York and Berlin.

Originally this art was political and polemical; but now Melbourne’s reputation as a graffiti city has spawned an industry fueled by tourism and advertising. Graffiti studios have replaced the little Aussie tagger.

The Daily‘s Sam Baran was joined by Flavia Marcello, Associate Professor in architecture and design at Swinburne University of Technology, to discuss the absence of political street art down Melbourne’s alleyways.

You can find A/Prof Marcello’s writing on the subject here at The Conversation.
