If your child was struggling in school, you’d hope that it would be recognised and changes made to allow them to catch up. But this isn’t happening. Children who are at a disadvantage by Year 3, often remain behind until they finish school.

Experts say it has to do with the way NAPLAN is measured. A new report Widening gaps: what NAPLAN tells us about student progress by the Grattan Institute looks to investigate this disadvantage and offer solutions.
