Wine Chat: Phylloxera

The phylloxera blight decimated the European wine industry in the late 1800’s, and nearly lead to the death of regions like Burgundy. Even today management of this vineyard pest is one of the key biosecurity concerns in the Australian wine industry. To understand just what this phylloxera is and where it comes from we are joined by resident wine expert BSC: Wine Science student Cal Lee
2024 Parley ‘Capitaine’, Chardonnay, Coonawarra, S.A.
Cal Says: A great medium weight white made with fruit sourced from the organic Penola vineyard in Coonawarra. Some old oak and lees work see give this wine weight and structure without being overbearing, zippy grapefruit acidity over sandalwood and a saline base. Will cellar for 4 years but can happily drink now, pair with white meat or soft cheeses.
