‘Witness K’ hearing postponed, but pot stirred over East Timor spying scandal

It’s been over a decade since Canberra lawyer Ben Collaery’s client ‘Witness K’ exposed a secret Australian spying operation in East Timor, but the hearing of charges against the pair was due to commence in Canberra just this week. The hearing has now been postponed until September, but that hasn’t stopped controversies over the case from resurfacing. With concerns that this case could deter those who witness government wrongdoing going public from exposing it, its important to understand the facts behind the case, the controversies surrounding it and its potential ramifications. Professor Clinton Fernandes, Professor in International & Political Studies at UNSW, Canberra, spoke to 2Ser Breakfast, filled us in on 2Ser Breakfast.
