On the southern slopes of the Australian Alps we have the regions of King Valley, and the lesser known Alpine Valleys. Integral to the history of Italian grapes in Australia these two regions are oft overshadowed by the more prestigious regions of Victoria. To talk about the Geography, History and wineries of these regions we are joined by BSC: Wine Science student Cal Lee.
2022 Konpira Maru ‘FRZ 1/1’, Arneis, King Valley, Victoria
Cal Says: Salty, crisp, fragrant, a little bit fizzy; the FRZ 1/1 has it all. Inspire by the Basque wine Txakoli this arneis is naturally lower in alcohol and oozes personality. A compelling example of combining an underrated wine style with undervalued king valley fruit. A stellar pairing with pintxos like the classic gilda, garlic prawns, even a non-traditional salt and pepper squid. Drink now, not designed to age.
